2021.10.17 00:00 pianosoul098 Constant banging noise from air duct when heat is on
I just bought a new house, and whenever the heat is on, the air duct would start producing a loud banging noise every 5-15sec. After some research, as well as a visit from a HVAC guy who installed the furnace, it seems it's due to the ducts expanding in heat and colliding with the dry wall or wooden frames of the house. Unfortunately, only one of the air ducts has this issue, and it HAS to be the one in the master bedroom. The noise is so loud it's pretty much the equivalent of someone banging on the bedroom door with their fist, and the only way we can fall asleep is to simply turn off the furnace, which is not acceptable given that winter is coming soon. The HVAC guy said there's nothing he can do since "they didn't install the ducts, only the furnace", except "submitting a report" to management. I've contacted the builder and waiting for a reply, and I plan to escalate to the warranty corporation (Tarion) here in Ontario, Canada.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue, and know what can be done to fix it? Do they have to literally take apart of the dry wall, fix the placement of the duct, and redo the wall? This noise is driving us insane and we've already woken up in the middle of the night countless times due to it (on nights where we have no choice but to have heat on due to the cold weather).

2021.10.17 00:00 ankoch1119 Why The Sopranos is Better than the "Prestige Dramas" that Followed in its Footsteps (Spoiler Free)
I've been obsessed with watching Sopranos clips and episodes recently. I first watched it as a kid after discovering Breaking Bad, which I long considered to be my favorite show ever. However, as the years have gone by, I've found myself revisiting The Sopranos more than any other TV drama. I've been thinking a lot about why The Sopranos stands out over all the other great HBO/anti-hero shows that it inspired, and I figured I'd put down some of my thoughts here.
Breaking Bad: Vince Gilligan took the Sopranos premise (seeing the mundane life of a bad man) and took it to its logical extreme (turning a mundane person into a bad man). It is maybe the most exciting, tightly plotted show ever to air on TV. The thing that prevents it from surpassing The Sopranos, however, is its depth. Breaking Bad is so plot-driven that it was my favorite show after watching it the first time and being surprised by every twist. There's something "perfect" about how it wraps up every loose end, but you get most of your enjoyment out of your first watch. You never wonder why Walt makes his decisions.
The Sopranos, on the other hand, is a messier and more emotionally complicated show. It is far from perfect, and it has plenty of loose ends. This is part of what makes it so enjoyable on multiple viewings. Its emotional realism and complex psychology have stuck with me for years. It's not as "exciting" in an immediate sense, but it's ultimately a more engaging show in the long run. Breaking Bad is best appreciated as one long narrative, whereas you can tune into any episode of The Sopranos and enjoy it almost as if it's a great sitcom. This is what sets it apart.
Boardwalk Empire: The spiritual successor to The Sopranos. Gives the "hits and tits" crowd everything they could dream of, with tons of sex and exciting violence and gangster luxury. This is made even better by the inclusion of real mob figures like Capone and Luciano.
Sadly, this is the only improvement on The Sopranos. The main problem is its protagonist. I love Buscemi, but Nucky is written as such an unknowable, joyless man. Like Don Draper, he's a cipher, but he's far less interesting than Don. Compared to Nucky, Tony Soprano is a relatable, open person when you meet him. Even though he's a bad person, Tony's genuine concerns and connection to his family makes him such a great character. Nucky feels distant in comparison, and so the show half-tries to focus on other characters in its later seasons, but it never really solves its protagonist problem.
Also, it's not even 1/10 as funny as The Sopranos.
Mad Men: Like Boardwalk, Mad Men was made by someone who worked on The Sopranos. It also gets much closer to capturing the magic of The Sopranos, despite not having any crime action. Don Draper is initially not as relatable as Tony, but his characterization is pretty incredible. It's funny, super watchable, and narratively dense in a way that reminds me of The Sopranos.
It only falls a little short because its characters are struggling with their own ennui and aimlessness, and the show sometimes feels aimless as a result. It's a "classier," sexier show than The Sopranos, but it's ultimately tackling a more narrow set of themes (masculinity, the emptiness of modern America, and redemption). The Sopranos handled those themes just as well while also touching on really intense moral concepts and giving us a more engaging plot.
Also, despite its huge budget, Mad Men feels more like a TV show than The Sopranos.
Sons of Anarchy and The Shield: Haven't finished The Shield yet. So far, it's incredible. It did a lot of what made Breaking Bad so exciting before Breaking Bad even aired. To me, The Shield's constant narrative developments and cop subplots distract from the character development at times. The Shield is great at what it does, but it's a more unpleasant show than The Sopranos and doesn't seem to have the same potential for multiple viewings (like Breaking Bad, it's very plot-focused).
Sons of Anarchy, on the other hand, is pretty bad imo. A super nasty and long-winded story with characters who are vulgar and unlikeable without being interesting. With The Wire or The Sopranos, I love hanging out with the characters even when they're evil. To me, SoA just didn't have characters I cared about that way. It's sorta based on Hamlet, and it takes a story about indecision and stretches it out needlessly over 7 seasons. No where near as emotionally arresting as The Sopranos.
Also, I hate the "season-long" villain thing that's become the norm with recent prestige shows. I know that Sopranos did it many times, but I think a lot of shows have tried to have their own Gus Fring (a refined, scary antagonist). SoA is SUPER guilty of this.
The Wire: One of the other "greatest shows of all time." It's obviously incredible and deserving of its praise. It also has a similar Y2K vibe to the early seasons of The Sopranos, at least to me.
The main difference is that The Wire starts big (the landscape of an entire city) and then hones in on the specific characters. The Sopranos starts small (one man) and then makes larger points about society. I think a lot of the concepts in the Wire were new to a lot of viewers, but the War on Drugs and systemic corruption are huge talking points in the current discourse. The Wire never quite builds characters as believable as Tony or Carmela or Christopher. The biggest Wire character in terms of the fanbase is Omar, and he's a larger-than-life figure who doesn't have a ton of screen time. Characters in The Wire are clearly there to represent some facet of the city, whereas many Sopranos characters feel like weird, real people even when they're technically unnecessary. The Sopranos also has a lot to say politically even though it does so more subtly than The Wire. Because of this subtlety, The Sopranos has had a resurgence even outside of The Many Saints of Newark, whereas The Wire hasn't quite been given the same treatment.
These are just a few shows. I could talk more about Deadwood and Six Feet Under, too. What shows do you think give The Sopranos a run for its money?

2021.10.17 00:00 linuxlifer Tank Question
Question going out to the tanks out there but more specifically how you play the game outside of dungeons.
I opted to spec into tanking the other day because me and my friend were around level 25 and having troubles finding a tank for Amrine. We ran the dungeon twice and they went fine and were basically instantly able to find dps.
My question is, outside of tanking dungeons, do you generally build back into DPS for leveling purposes or do you just stick it out and play tank builds during regular open world content? If you just stay tank all of the time what kind of build do you use so that your DPS while questing isn't TOO terrible?
Thanks for the assistance.
